The Early Childhood Institute is a unit of the College of Education. The Institute was established in 1999 by Cathy Grace, Ed.D. to provide training, technical assistance, and applied research for improved quality and accessibility of early care and education across Mississippi. The Institute serves communities statewide through programs which focus on improving quality of early childhood education, providing professional development for early childhood professionals, and engaging the community in supporting young children.

The work of The Institute is funded through a variety of public agencies, private foundations, and nongovernmental organizations united in their commitment to early care and education. With this essential support, The Institute provides early childhood expertise in over 65% of Mississippi’s counties.
