Located in a quiet corner of the campus of Mississippi State University, Aiken Village Preschool is a year-round, campus-based early childhood program for children ages 3 to 5 years. The preschool is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and holds a 5-Star rating in Quality Stars, Mississippi’s tiered quality rating and improvement system.
The MSU Early Childhood Institute (ECI) operates Aiken Village Preschool, which serves as a Head Start collaboration site in partnership with the Institute of Community Services, Inc. Thanks to a grant from the Child Care Access Means Parents in School program of the U.S. Department of Education, Aiken Village Preschool can offer child care tuition credits for eligible MSU students.
Aiken Village Preschool offers a developmentally appropriate child-oriented curriculum, meeting the needs of the whole child through play-based early learning experiences. The play environment provides many opportunities for exploring, experimenting, problem-solving, communicating, and cooperating. Research has shown that young children who are supported in their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development have lasting social and academic success in kindergarten and beyond
The curriculum at Aiken Village Preschool is based on The Creative Curriculum for Preschool and All About Preschoolers, An Environment-Based Curriculum. Curriculum design complies with the Mississippi Early Learning Guidelines, Mississippi Early Learning Standards, and the Head Start Child Outcomes Framework.
Teachers at Aiken Village Preschool hold bachelor’s degrees in early childhood education or related fields and are committed to providing age-appropriate learning experiences in an accepting, warm environment. Our low child-to-adult ratio enhances the learning environment while providing opportunities for independent exploration. Carol Jones, M.S., is the director of Aiken Village Preschool.
