Community involvement is particularly important in early education and care because of the fragmented nature of the early childhood sector. Many providers of early care and education receive little or no public oversight or funding and are unknown beyond their own communities. The support of local foundations and corporations makes more and better training available to child care employees and helps the public understand the importance of the early years for lifelong learning and health.
