Southern Early Childhood Association Honors MSU Early
Childhood Institute for Help in Katrina Region
FEB. 10, 2006 | The
Southern Early Childhood Association (SECA) last week
recognized the work of the Mississippi State University
Early
Childhood Institute for recovery for early childhood
programs in the Hurricane Katrina region.
Beverly Peden of Brandon, Miss., a member of the SECA Board of
Directors, presented an award to ECI staff members who attended
the association’s annual conference in Nashville, Tenn. Cathy
Grace, Ed.D., professor and director of ECI, accepted the award
on behalf of the staff.
“Many people in Mississippi
and others around the country are helping the communities of the
Gulf Coast recover from Hurricane Katrina. We are grateful for
all of the donations of materials and money that have arrived
for early childhood programs,” Grace said.
Grace presented a lapel pin to Glenda Bean, executive director
of SECA, in thanks for Bean’s personal assistance to ECI and the
hurricane recovery effort. Grace is a past executive director of
SECA.
SECA launched the Hand to Hand and Heart to
Heart campaign shortly after the Aug. 29 hurricane to collect
money and materials for early childhood programs.
