February 7, 2012 | The Mississippi state Board of Education has approved new Early Learning Standards for Classrooms Serving Three-year-old Children and Early Learning Standards for Classrooms Serving Four-year-old Children. These standards for English language arts and mathematics are aligned with the kindergarten Common Core State Standards and will replace the Early Learning Guidelines for language and mathematics.

A team of early childhood experts from across the state met in the summer of 2011 to collaborate on the creation of the standards. Team members included prekindergarten and kindergarten teachers, Head Start experts, university faculty, early childhood professionals and elementary school administrators.

Partners is finishing their 13th year of technical assistance in child care centers across the state. In September, we will be recruiting centers for our new project year that begins October 1st. I would encourage child care center directors to be on the look-out for letters of recruitment that will be sent out next month and return enrollment forms as quickly as possible if they are interested in our assistance.
