Stacy A. Callender is a research associate for the National Center for Rural Early Childhood Learning Initiatives and the Excel by Five Community Initiative. Before joining the Early Childhood Institute, she taught at MSU in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education. She has been a school-based mental health therapist and preschool day-treatment behavioral specialist with community mental health services in Mississippi as well as a graduate researcher with the National Center on Educational Outcomes, a policy research center focusing on students with disabilities. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where she is completing a doctorate in educational psychology. Her research interests include improving literacy instruction through progress monitoring, early childhood mental health, family-school-community collaboration, and wrap-around services.
